Feasting to End Fasting

The end is here! After a whole month of fasting, Waking up early, praying till late, now it is time for celebrations. I think this is the perfect time to evaluate what we have learnt throughout this month. Most of us are ready to celebrate Eid with an extravaganza full of food that is way too much to be finished by the people who are invited. If this is how we end this holy month, then there is something fundamentally wrong in our thinking.

Yes indeed you must cook good food and share it with everyone and have a good time on Eid. But also isn't what we learnt throughout this month is about the difficulties of the less fortunate? Did we learn nothing about their hardships by starving ourselves? While you throw away so much food, there are many families around you who are incapable of finding food to eat. When you were an hour or two away from Ifthar and you just couldn't take it anymore and are too hungry, imagine that being everyday of you life! Of course you knew that holding on for a little longer will make you consume as much as yummy food as you want, but they have no such guarantee! Imagine yourself among them. Put yourself in the shoes of a father who has no way of feeding his little kids who are not crying for an iPhone or an expensive toy but for a mouthful of food. There are hundreds of such people around us!

Please show kindness to them by sharing what you have prepared for yourself without limiting it to the Eid day, but everyday. Try your best not to waste food, instead, share it with your brothers and sisters!  the Prophet Mohammad Sallalalahu Alayhi wa Sallam is reported to have said,

“He is not a Muslim who goes to bed satiated while his neighbor goes hungry”
