Fighting Against Racism

Muslims in many countries are currently affected by the racism against them. This is not limited to a certain country or a certain part of the world, this is a universal issue in almost all the countries with Muslim minorities.

Born out of mere hatred, Muslims too make some mistakes which makes these issues worsen. Since we cannot completely control the wrong fixations in others' mind, it is time for us to focus on something that we can.

I'm not intending to talk about how we can gradually make the non-Muslims’ Islamophobia go away with us following Islam properly. That's a whole other topic. This article is about how the Muslims can face the actions resulted by Islamophobia.

Redefining the System of Zakath

Zakath is one of the "Must Do" Obligations in Islam. The whole Concept of Zakath is to Minimize the Number of the Poor People in the Community.  But, unfortunately the count is increasing every year instead.

So, it is Evident that There Must be a Hole in the system which has to be patched or to be redefined entirely.

Continuing Ramadan

Every Ramadan we perform many good deeds while distancing ourselves from forbidden activities and this doesn't seem too hard to do during the month. Once the holy month ends, the real challenge begins!

All around you there are movies, music, TV and amazing entertainment that are carefully designed to kill our time by being so addictive that you cannot resist. Waking up early in the morning to perform Fajr Salah seems like an activity that is impossible to achieve. You go back to wasting time chit chatting with your friends all the time and the Quran is back in the cupboard intended to be taken out next Ramadan which we have no guarantee we will live to see.

Feasting to End Fasting

The end is here! After a whole month of fasting, Waking up early, praying till late, now it is time for celebrations. I think this is the perfect time to evaluate what we have learnt throughout this month. Most of us are ready to celebrate Eid with an extravaganza full of food that is way too much to be finished by the people who are invited. If this is how we end this holy month, then there is something fundamentally wrong in our thinking.

May this Eid be the best one yet!

Hajj, Umrah & Kindness

It’s Last 10 Days of Ramadan again. It’s that time of the year when so many people are leaving the country for pilgrimage. A small research will reveal you how much it costs for performing Umrah. Some people just have to perform Umrah each Ramadan. And if someone does it the others can’t stand the idea of themselves not doing it since that will impact their social status negatively. It’s so much similar to an ant-mill where ants follow each other and walk in circles until they die of exhaustion. This situation to me seems like a human-mill where people try to copy each other pointlessly.
Now, I’m not the most devoted muslim in the world. Nor do I know too much about the religion. But what I do know is, Islam is all about helping each other. The whole point of having a devoted month for understanding the ordeals of the poor makes it obvious to even someone who has no other knowledge on the teachings of Islam.
Even the Prophet Muhammed (PBUH) performed only Four Umrahs and one Hajj despite living in the same region. But the modern muslim doesn’t get contended by that. Each year he has to perform hajj and umrah to show the world his devotion to the religion and how the cost of minimum LKR 500,000 per hajj and LKR 200,000 per umrah cannot stop him. This same person is highly likely to hesitate giving a 20 rupees to the old woman coming to his doorstep asking for money to make herself food.
How inconsiderate and cruel we have become! As if the pilgrimage will earn u rewards from Allah that kindness doesn’t! Yes Hajj is a must. One time in your life. Do it and your obligation to allah is fulfilled. What about the obligation you have for your brothers and sisters in poverty? Didn’t Allah give you more money and less to them so that you will share your wealth and lift the others up? What kinds of multiplied rewards are you expecting from Allah by spending hundreds of thousand rupees in pilgrimage while your neighbor is starving to death? With the little I know about the teachings of Prophet Muhammed (PBUH), I can say that he wouldn’t have liked your actions. He would want you to spend the wealth you are blessed with on the path of Allah by showing kindness to others. Teaching kids whose parents are incapable of, putting food on the plates of the poor, ensuring that young girls doesn’t have to go begging and with that kind of money you can put a roof on top of the head of so many people!
I do not understand what makes you feel good about your actions. I do not know how performing the pilgrimage over and over can be more satisfying than the smile of a little child on the sight of seeing good food in front of him. I am confused on how you are so willing to make your travel agents more and more rich but not buy a book for a talented and yet less fortunate student. Your negligence disgusts me. And no I have no respect for you despite you are respected by the society with titles. You do not have to be so religious to see the point I’m making. You just have to be human. And to me, you are not!
